Finding the Trucking Industry’s Future Leaders

The Australian Trucking Association and Daimler Truck and Bus Australia Pacific are searching for the future leaders of the Australian trucking industry, today opening nominations for the 2020 Daimler Truck and Bus Future Leaders’ Forum.

The Australian Trucking Association and its member associations collectively represent the 50,000 businesses and 200,000 people in the Australian trucking industry. Together, we are committed to safety, professionalism and viability.

“Like many Australian industries, the trucking industry is facing disruption and innovation as new technologies change the way we do business, work and live,” ATA Chair Geoff Crouch said.

“To deal with these challenges we need a new generation of leaders who will help build a stronger, safer and more productive industry,” he said.

The first part of the 2020 Daimler Truck and Bus Future Leaders’ Forum will be held in Canberra on 25-26 November 2019, where participants will take part in intensive workshops and take-home leadership projects which will be presented at the ATA’s Trucking Australia conference, held in Cairns from 1-3 April 2020.

Participants will also be mentored by experts in leadership, media and political training during the forum, developing their potential as future leaders of the industry and the ATA’s network of member associations.

Daimler Truck and Bus Australia President and CEO Daniel Whitehead said he was excited to see the talent and vision on display during the 2018 and 2019 Daimler Truck and Bus Future Leaders’ Forums and looks forward to welcoming a new cohort to the Future Leaders’ alumni.

“Nurturing the next generation of Australia’s transport industry leaders, it is clear this type of initiative can help make the transport industry a destination for the country’s finest,” Mr Whitehead said.

“Daimler is thrilled to be part of such an invaluable program that allows participants to work so closely with decision-makers and gain valuable industry insight from expert mentors,” he said.

2018 Future Leader Stacey Davies said the forum was the best training and development she has taken part in throughout her 10 year career.

“It allowed me to not only create valuable and ongoing working relationships with other young leaders in my industry, but also helped me to develop and refine my project management and presentation skills with the guidance of industry professionals in a safe and encouraging environment,” Ms Davies said.

“After taking part in the inaugural 2018 program, I received a job promotion as I was able to showcase my commitment, drive and dedication to the business through the implementation of my future leaders project,” she said.

Participants must be involved as an owner or employee in a trucking business that is a financial member of an ATA member association or TruckSafe. A participant could also be a direct member of an ATA association that offers individual membership.
